I enjoy this topic of fun and feel that the students can get an impression or hear older students describe a course and embellish it with I fell asleep every day or "worst" class in my life or some other describtion and the new students repeat what they heard to others...
Starting on a fun note will help dispell that story and set them from day one.
Hi Richard,
It is similar to all work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy. We all need to laugh from time to time. Laughter is good for everyone.
Patricia
I agree if you engage the students in laughter and change the tone of the class from time to time it is a better learning experience.
Hi Ronald,
Having fun while learning is such a great mixture.
Patricia
This is very true I tell my class the same . How can we learn unless its fun and working with each other.
Hi Nathan,
Students do really seem to be more at ease whenever fun is occurring. I love including fun in my classes.
Patricia
keeping it fun also creates a relaxing environment to improve learning.
Making it fun has its benefits
Hi Anthony,
After all, we need to enjoy what we do. So let's make it fun for everyone.
Patricia
I agree with everyone that a fun learning environment helps the students learn even if they don't realize it. It can definately make a more enjoyable environment for us too.
Hi Frank,
What do you generally do to add fun to your courses? I allow my students to laugh and talk briefly everyday at a time that is best for everyone.
Patricia
Hi George,
I strongly believe in having fun while learning. It makes for a nice mesh. Continue to have fun while you teach!
Patricia
A fun enviornment also helps the students relax and makes them feel more comfortable in the class. This contributes to a better learning experience for them.
I agree. A fun environment invites a more positive learning experience.
i agree. if you do not keep it fun and interesting, the students will loose interest
Hi Frank,
The nickname idea made me laugh. Students really do like it when instructors give them nicknames.
Patricia
Hi Greg,
What a powerful last statement. We need more true educators such as yourself. I can honestly say, I have been teaching for 20 years, and I am just as happy as I was 20 years ago. Let's keep the trend going!
Patricia
What i do from time to time is give students nick names.Which makes them laugh.
I have always told my students that they need to have fun in what ever they do. It is a must to stay focused.I have enjoyed my trade for over thirty years and still love it today.
I find that true also. showing your human side gets people on the same page.draw lines where the fun stops and enjoy the class.
