be loud, and interactive it engages the students, this will also allow you to envolve them in the class and how you teach and who you are.

Hi John,
I am loud as well. I've found based on my voice projection, students stay engaged.

Vince, i am loud in class, i also alter the tone and volume in my voice, i find students paying better attention to me that way.

Hi Richard,
What an excellent suggestion by the student! Students can have good ideas. I am glad to know you are flexible. The students had fun while learning math.
Patricia

This past week, I had a student suggest we play "math bingo" in our four hour math class to re-energize and have some fun with math.

We did just that, we made up cards, I placed the answers on the board for the cards, then we solved problems to play "math bingo>'

Hi Tanya,
Encourage questions, welcome them. Whenever questions are welcomed by the instructor students are more open to asking questions.
Patricia

I am new to teaching adult learners so I am so glad to be learning all of this wonderful information. I especially liked the comment about making your students feel welcome when asking questions. I liked the advice to make it part of the explanation of the course procedures to address if time will be set aside for Q & A. I personally like my students to ask questions during lecture when they have them.

Hi Summer,
We as educators, must be approachable. It saddens me to know that some students are uncomfortable asking certain instructors questions. We are here for the students.
Patricia

Another loud instructor here! I agree with the statements being made about the line between loud, engaging and professional. It is important that you a demeanor of approachability. I remember having a few classes in college where the instructors were dismissive of those who asked questions or were confused. I hated seeing that and am always conscious of the fact that I want students to feel free to come to me when they are confused. Indeed, I often get students who come back to me and ask questions when they are struggling in another class.

Hi Rachelle,
Wow, it sounds like you and I are carbon copy! My students consider me as being professional, yet personal. What a great combination!
Patricia

I find that being vocal is a an effective way to engage the students in a classroom setting. I feel that as well making yourself appear human and able to be approached on a professional and personal level has a far reaching influence on a students demeanor in class. This lets the studnet be both relaxed and more willing to take in and follow through the work done in class.

Hi Vincent,
I am loud by nature. I hear students say all the time you can not go to sleep in Mrs. _____class. I take this as a compliment.
