The best way for me to get students excited for the course has been showing them how it is applicable in their chosen field. I have found that when they believe they can use the information in their field it is easier to keep them engaged.

First is that I am excited about the subject and try to convey that to the students. Then I work hard to find fun games and activities that help the students to see how they will be using this information in the workforce. I also try to get some feedback from the students to see what they liked the most and what was the most educational for them.

Hi Sarah,
Students love hearing about our professional experiences as they apply to course content. Sharing past experience makes for an exciting part of the course.

Hi Algevis,
Students like to know that we are available to them. They feel less intimidating knowing we are there to help them get through.

I like to connect my past expierence in the field that I am instructing so the students can put themselves into the situation and get excited about the course work

I'll let them know that as the instructor I'll do my best to make the content clear and that I am available for any problems.

Some of the methods I use to get the students excited about the course by showing them videos, giving them projects, and providing them with hands-on-activities. I also offer bonus points through indiviual and group work.

Hi Antoinette,

You are definitley on the right track! Bring life into the classroom. I also like to role play and go on field trips as well.

This area has been somewhat challenging for me. I think that the more real life applications that are brought into the clasroom enviroment ( Labs, models, experiments, guest speakers, etc.) the more exciting the classroom enviroment. Am I on the right track?

Hi Mabelle Joy,
I have found that students love quotes. The students are really inspired by the quotes.

Hi Cheryl,
I like to share with my students how the course will help them in their career to get them excited about the course content.

Hi Jessica,
To get my students excited about the course, I let them know on Day 1 how the course will benefit them in their career.

Patricia Scales

I usually start with quotations from famous people then ask students to make the connection between the quotation and the course content. They can eventually relate its relevance to their personal goals.

Getting to know their back grounds and share your backgrounds with you

I am going to start next week with my high schoolers doing some readong comprehension in the content area using the reading strategies. Hopefully it will help them to engage more in the texts and be able to really understand what is being aske of them.

Hi Jessica,
I agree! Reading comprenhension is key to just living.

Tha is a good idea. The benefit of the class I teach is kind of obcious though. I teach developmental reading. I would think it is apparent how being able to understand what you read on a daily basis would help you in your career as well as everything else you do in life.

Hi Jessica,
I love to share with my students how the particular course is going to help them in their career to get them excited about the course content.

Hi Donna,
I love how you get your students involved. No one wants to be lectured to for a whole 4 hours. Students love active learning.

Hi Gabriel,
