Student participation
How do you get them more involved ?
You have to engage them on a physical as well as mental level. In Culinary school, it is necessary to roll up your sleeves and show the student how things are done/correct them when you notice them doing something incorrectly. This demonstrates your knowledge as an instructor, as well as allow the student opportunity to show they understand the material.
I agree. Since the majority of the students who attend career colleges are adults who come in with lifetime experiences. They will relate better and will participate in class if they can connect their experiences with classroom topics.

so students are confronted with the actual
products they will be working on
Asking students to think about specific topics and relate them to experiences they have had in the past helps them engage and feel like part of their own education.

Students want and need real world activities.

By giveing the student or group of students real world activities, they can put themselves into a situtaion where the out come of the lab depends on how well they are prepaired and have the willing ness to preform the task at hand.

I like to give the students scenarios to act out or write a paragraph on how they would take care of a situation the best way possible for the patient and time available.
