How do you handle cheating students and what methods do you use to prevent cheating?

I agree with the grading attached to attendance which counts for 10% of the grade. I also give reduced grade for students being tardy. I document as a Participation grade and is is associated with the amount of time they are tardy. Cathy Johnston
I give a daily attendance grade- 100 if you are on time, 50 if you are late and 0 if not there at all. (Attendance counts 10% of their final average) If they are late and they miss a quiz they get a 0 as quizzes are not allowed to be made up. I also take 10 points off their test if they come in after the test has already been handed out. If it still continues I then talk to them at the end of class after everyone has left to see what is going on. A lot of our students travel over an hr to come to school, or maybe they have a child they have to get to the bus at a certain time and it is putting them behind. I try not to judge until I see what the circumstances are and see if we can come up with a solution.
