Introducing Myself as well as the course objective
I have trouble with this area as well. I often find it difficult to speak about myself without sounding like a bragart, or as though I'm showing off my qualifications. Is there a way to state your qual's w/o boasting. and still sound convincing?
I introduce myself and give them my " life experiences " . This seems to work for me,it motivates them, encourages them. Your success Is what gets them going . I do advise them of the bumps and curves but the road to success is golden when reached !!!
Hi,
I know what your saying. I often wanted to downsize my experience and career description, fearing that it would sound boastful. But I stopped worrying about that after I got my 3rd specialty certification. I have 33 years of experience as an RN @ the bedside, in healthcare management and over 20 years in healthcare education. Sometimes, as humble and unpresuming that you may strive to sound, there will always be a few students (or just people) that will consider you to be larger than life. Then there will be those that may think. "look at her, she thinks "she's all that". I just summarized my experience the way I've stated it to you in this reply (the 4th sentence).
Hi Brenda,
I like how you try to find common ground with your students. Students tend to bond with you once they discover they have something in common with you.

I've found talking about myself in a way that I'm relating to the students mainly about groups I'am involved in such as single mother's groups ect. Helps the students open up and become more relaxed, feeling they have an instructor that understands and care. Then I find it easier to talk about my qualifications.
