syllabus
it is helpful if it is complete. need to focus students on needed requirements.

I agree, but at my school, students are expected to print out and review the syllabus from the school website. Instructors are prohibited from distributing the course syllabus during class. I rarely have students who get the syllabus on their own and am not sure how to handle this situation. Perhaps I can offer an incentive for students to be more motivated in downloading it.
Todd,
I agree with you that if the students can look at the syllabus and know what to expect, those that like to get ahead will have the opportunity to do so. But all students, regardless of whether they are those that like to get ahead want to know what is ecpected, and how they are being evaluated.

many students like to know whats next, and some students like to be slightly ahead of schedule. by doing that there is less stress about covering everything.
