Passion and humor in your presentation
I have found that adding passion and humor to your presentations is what will bring your students in and add to their overall enjoyment of the class.
I have found that relating words or ideas to something the student finds funny will have a greater chance of being retained in their long term memory. If you can make the students laugh and enjoy themselves, learning becomes more of an engaging activity rather than a chore.
It does. As soon as I tell the students some of the things that I have done, it loosens them up knowing that they will make mistakes too. The way you present it helps also. Let the students know it is OK to laugh at themselves too.
Hello Patricia;
I agree with you. I have a very small class, but I am passionate about what I do the topic that I teach. So having fun and relating real world or funny stories to the topic engages the student
Bringing profesional experiences and making them fun will catch the students attention and interest. Using humor to certain extend to share this experiences, will bring unattentive students back to focus or open disscussion for the rest of the class.
Hi Roger,
Students can tell if you love what you do, and laughter does everyone some good!
Patricia
Having passion and humor enguages the students and keeps them interested.
Hi Tom,
You make it even more interesting for students whenever you metion how math applies to si-fi, videos, games. These are things that society is already interested in so you are really able to grab their attention.
Patricia
Many students already have a passion for math; they just don't know they do. They read and watch si-fi and play video or real time games.
When they see my passion for math and that it does tie into work they already do it helps them see that math really is useful.
The humor of changing the perceived reality such as parallel lines
really existing or not gets many students to thinking.
I've found in my class room that the more fun you can make material the more the student remembers. Such as a funny story, (they always remember stories). Also the more excited they see you become over a lesson the more they want to have that same excitement.
Hi John,
Students need to have fun while learning. It is a nice mesh to mix fun with learning. Students look forward to each class meeting when they know they are going to have fun.
