Examples of work

Providing prior work as an example of assignments promotes expectations of work necessary to successfully complete the assignment

Hi Tasha,
Visual is a great way to add clarity. Most students get a better understading by seeing.
Patricia

Usually when you utilize prior work experience as examples in your course, they can visual and get a better understanding of a real life scenario in whatever topic you are covering. It can give the students that sense of "expectations" necessary for when they are out working in the real world.

In general, they listen.

Hi David,
What type of reaction do you get from your students whenever examples of work are shown?
Patricia

Tell them that with the state of the economy it is hard to predict what is down the road and to prepare for anything in their field.

Hi Karin,
Great idea! I also like to add an "A" example, "B" example, "C" example, etc.
Patricia

Hi Mike! :) I agree with you - I would also add that I think it's important to sometimes provide them with more than one example of prior work in order to prevent them from attempting to submit "cookie cutter" assignments. I like to show a few pieces of previous work that I would consider of a high quality, but that also reflect the spectrum of what's both acceptable and possible.
