Get students to realize all their classes have equal importance?

I have a couple of classes in our program (Computer System Specialist) that students can't seem to link to the importance or relevance of the material to the course description. Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

Hi Kimberly,
Students must realize the importance of retaining the information learned in all classes so that they can pass state boards, certifications, and perform on the job.

I have the same issue within my medical program. Students look at each class individually instead of looking at them as a whole. Within each class that I teach I am constantly taking students back to past classes combining the new information together to hopefully get the light bulb to turn on for them as to the why they need to know the things that we have taught them and not just focus on the letter grades. Many of our students shoot for the letter grade then brain dump for the next class. The big problem with this is that in the end when they take there boards they are not passing. It looks really bad when your student that graduated on the president's and dean's list can't pass their medical boards. So maybe some real world experiences. You could even try this website and create a cartoon movie to show the relevance and importance of the material in a job (www.xtranormal.com).
