Ice Breakers
Hello Patricia,
I teach at a career college how do I icebreaker ideas for medical office assistant program?
I teach in the pharmacy program, my degree is in marketing and i have past experience in media and sales training where icebreakers were always used. I use one of my favorites that I went through while working for an advertising agency, "two truths and a lie", the students state two things that are true about themselves, and one thing that is not. the other students (and instructor) have to try to guess which of the three is not true. here's an example for me
1) during my pharmacy career, i was robbed at gunpoint on three occasions.
2) i am an avid water skier
3) i have visited every continent (except antarctica)
hard to choose, huh?
i find it is an excellent, light way to make the students comfortable with me as an instructor and with other classmates, and a fun filled way to ease into the course.
Hi Amani,
I teach business courses, but I suppose you can use the same icebreakers. I like the interviewer/interviewee introduction. I also like the M&M introduction as an icebreaker along with using the adjective that begins with the letter of one's first name to describe them, such as POSITIVE PATRICIA.
Patricia
You can use this icebreaker for any career field. Its called Commonalities and Uniquities. On the first day of class, divide students into equal groups. Tell them to make a list of all the things they have in common and a list of all the things that everyone in the group does not have in common (uniquities). They will find out alot about each other and realize that they have a lot more in common than they have differences. Than share answers with the rest of the class so they all get to know each other a little better. The class will make instant connections with each other. Works Great!
