Syllabus
Syllabus is necssary. It acts as a written contract between the student and instructor. It has all the objectives, due dates, expectations, grading, and etc. This is a guide for the student to be aware of all the assignments and due dates for the entire term. I find it extremely helpful to go over the syllabus in detail on the first day of class
Having a quiz on the syllabus is a great idea! I will definitely do that with my next class.
Hi Karen,
Most of our students do not read unless forced to do so. Let them know that they will have a quiz on the syllabus, and you will get more students to read the syllabus.

The syllabus should be expectations and guidelines for the course. Some students do not utilize the syllabus for guidelines and never read any of the content that is not required to read.
I am going back to college and from a students perspective, I enjoy reading over the syllabi. I can get a feel for what I will be learning and what my deadlines are for my assignments.
Hi Kellie,
I have heard instructors using PowerPoint presentations to make the syllabus exciting. I also know of instructors asking questions in open forum about the syllabus and have the students find the answer on the syllabus and share.

I totally agree with you. One problem I have noticed though is that my students, at times, get very bored and complain about going over, in detail, another syllabi. I am looking at different ways to make it more appealing to them. I am taking the suggestion of different font sizes and text boxes to grab attention to more specific and important detail. Any other suggestions out there?
