Being clear
I think it is very important to be clear about the class and the assignments.
Hi Frankie,
What is important is that you do make yourself available to your students. I am sure your students see that you care.

That's what I've done also. The students are informed in the beginning that make up clinicals are scheduled based on the instructor's availability so most are pretty flexible on their end. Usually, they just appreciate the opportunity to make it up.
Hi Frankie,
I try my best to work with the student and come up with a time that is convenient for the both of us so that the student gets what he/she needs. Life happens and situations will arise.

As a nursing instructor, I agree that it is very important that the student understand from the beginning the importance of the schedule, including lectures, labs and clinical experiences and the fact that it is very difficult to progress if the schedule is not adhered to. A detailed schedule, presented on the first day, is essential. I encourage students to come to me immediatly if they anticipate any problems with the schedule. When legitimate reasons arise that require individualization of schedules, what have you found to be the most successful approach?
Establishing deadlines at the start of the course and providing a schedule for students helps to eliminate any question about due dates. Situations may occur that require exception to the rule, but generally this helps students and instructors remain oraganized and on the same page.
I agree. I also ask the students to sign a form stating they have received all material and fully understand the syllabus. This makes them "think twice" before they sign.
