Showing examples of past students work.
I often show my students work done by past students, this gives them a better idea of what is requird of them.
I do this is well. Showing excellent work from former students is a great way of telling the current students what is expected of them. It sets the benchmark to shoot for.
In some classes where the student have to do project like poster boards, power point presentation, I save the good work of my previous student and then I show the work to my new students if they need guidence or examples
I do the same. I have to grade documentation and showing some exceptional examples done by previous students has always helped in visualizing what is expected as well as providing an opportunity for the student to open a dialogue and ask further questions regarding the project assigned.
I also show some prior work. This gives them more of a clear vision of what the assignment entails. Sometimes our students have a hard time actually visualizing what the directions are looking for.
