Use current and day to day exmaples

Always review news papers journals and magazines for current articles related to the topic of discussion. Students want to know what is going on and the impact it will have on their education and future career.

Hi Penelope,
It sounds like your students are trying to out do each other. Competition is a good thing. Keep your students excited and motivated.

I teach environmental science so having current topics is of utmost importance. If we don't relate it to what we see around us it won't seem relevant. It is easy to find topics. You can harldy go a day without seeing or hearing a topic relating to going "green". I find my students trying to outdo each other with the most interesting or unusual topics each week.

It's one thing to read about something in a text book, but hearing real life examples of situations that apply helps to really bring it home. Students are more likely to remember a concept if they are given such examples.

Hi Josefina,
Students like it when things are made to be practical and very realistic. They understand the overall picture a lot better.

It's best to incorporate current day situations when discussing material in class. That allows the student to see themselves in the field (more realistic).
