Inconsistent instructors no better than disobedient students
One of the challenges some instructors face when it comes to imposing general school rules and regulations is inconsistency among themselves. Though they don't mean to critique their fellow educators, they somehow feel concerned because students tend to rebel against them because "they are not like their other instructors."
How would you deal with this without creating a conflict with your fellow instructor?
As in the real world, everybody is different. Hence, teaching styles are bound to be different amongst instructors. The only thing that I can say is that this phenomenon isn't necessarilly a bad thing; rather, it is a real world situation due to diversity in general. If a student questions why I am doing something when "So-and-so" does or doesn't do it, well then the only thing that I would imply is that everybody is different.
However, if there is a major inconsistency in the comparison of instructors and their methods of instruction, then I definitely encourage students to voice their concerns, privately if at all possible. Perhaps there lies a medium between these differences that can be attained in order to improve the imposition of school rules and regulations.
If these individual conferences between student and teacher do not improve the overall classroom environment, then I encourage instructors to mention this phenomenon at the next faculty meeting to see if others are having the same problem. Maybe the instructors need to communicate more to ensure consistency, and I am confident that this communication can occur without conflict.
