Being An Example
How closely do you think student watch you?
Hi William,
As instructors we are closely watched. We must always be very cautious of our actions. We must leady by example at all times.
Patricia
My students are evaluating me from the moment I enter, or they enter the classroom. Best way I know to be an example to to have all the little things right so that student don't find mistakes up front. That's a bad way to start. I like the idea of an "ice breaker" is great because it humanizes the instructor and introduces the students to each other, putting everyone more at ease.
Hi Joanna,
As a new instructor I am amazed that students actually come to me and say things like, "What can I do to get where you are now?" However, this is more of an on-ground statement as opposed to an on-line statement. As far as on-line teaching goes, I notice that they will watch and ask more questions to double check for my accuracy. So yes, I would say that whether we teach on-ground or on-line, we are definitely being watched.
Hi William,
It is a great compliment whenever your students want to be like you because of the professional behavior you model.
Patricia
My students hear and see more then you expect. I also work where I teach and they always ask me how they can be like me
Hi Kendell,
They really do examine us carefully! Continue to be the professional that you want your students to become. Our students need positive role models.
Patricia
Being a professional for years I know for a fact that students watch teachers. I have had students come to me during breaks and thank me for leading by example.
