Late Assignments

Instructors at the first class meeting should be explicit regarding late assignments. This will save time and articulate your profesionalism.

Most definately, the instructor must be explicit regarding any late assignments. The instructor must inform the students the consequences for their late work. Using real life examples should be used as well. Instructors should also be understanding and be considerate of circumstances out of the control of the student. Unfortunately, "Murphy" tends to add additional stress to adult learners than to teenagers. The instructor must be able to listen and make a judgement call regarding the late assignment. However, the instructor must be fair to all students and must have a tracking system so that he/she is not taken advantage of.

I agree and this is how I run my class. Little reminders go a long way and students like to know they are on top of things.

Hi Trevor,

Most definitely, the instructor should be very specific about late assignments and ask the students if they have a complete understanding of the late policy.
The students should be informed of the late policy the first day of class and then reminded often during the course of the semester/quarter.
