Rewarding Extra Effort
When a student goes the extra mile with, ie, research, creativity, or effort. I make an effort to engage the other students in his/ her achievement. By asking the student how he/ she achieved it, how long did it take or what did you gain by this action, it gives the other students an insight as to what they can do next time.
i too bbelieve that giving extra assignment as independant study ,helps improve the student's ability to perform independantly and improves motivation.
I give credit for doing independant assignment and extra work done needs to be recognised and rewarded.
Sharing the extra effort of these students and hopefully inspiring others is an excellent idea.
I sometimes will give the students an opportunity for "Extra Credit" points-as long as they are meeting the requirements of the class. I have found that even the best students feel more secure when they know they have a few extra credit points for "insurance" in case they don't do as well on an assessment.
Some people disagree with the idea of extra credit, but I feel it encourages students to do a little more than just what is required.
