Icebreakers

I have used ice breakers in the classroom numerous times. This has helped both new and returning students to get to know each other. One ice breaker I do is to have them split up in pairs, asking each other a few questions, such as Name, favorite vacation, favorite food, and one thing no one would ever guess about you. I always caveat it with that the answers need to be clean and nothing that would be uncomfortable sharing.

Hi Joyce,
Great way for you to get to know your students and for them to get to know each other.

I really like that and will try it out next time. I usually have them go around the room and ask them to talk about themselves, why they are here, where they want to go..this is especially helpful on their very first day of orientation.

I have a similar ice breaker. I have my students pair up and tell each other 2 truths and 1 lie. Then they have to share the other person's 3 facts to the class and the class has to pick out the lie.

That's a good idea and I have done something similar. Typically once I have them in pairs I also make them share 1 expectation that they would like to get out of the course.
