Expectations

Everyone in every situatiopn is lookong for expectations. This is important from something as basic as driving a car to running a major department in an organization.

Hi Allison,
Simply put, rules must be established on Day 1 so that your students know that you are serious off the bat.

It has to be on day one, or you cannot regulate the class. I like to have the students participate with creating class rules and then add some. It helps them feel more accountable that they created the rules and expectations.

Hi Walter,

I concur! When students learn the expectations on Day 1, things tend to run a lot smoother.

Expectations is something that should be laid out from the very beginning. What do the students expect from the course? What are the expectations of the students to the course? The big one to make sure and convery is, What are the expectations you have for your students in the course?
Also apply the 'hook'. Show the students what is in it for them. If they fulfill all expectations where can it lead them?

Paul,
I concur! Everything must have purpose, otherwise what good is it.
