Late work
I don't allow my students to turn in late work unless they have an excused absent. I think that some students tend to take advantage if you allow them to.

I certainly understand your perspective. I too accept some late assignments with a penalty, however there are some assignments that students know on Day 1 that I will not accept late. I am stricter in some classes more so than others.

I also allow students to turn in assignments late. Of course, they lose a larger percentage of the credit for the assignment as each day passes. My reasoning is that I want the students to do the work and learn, so that they can perform on evaluations. I point out to the student that they are actively learning "the hard way" and if they hand in the assignments on time they can learn something AND get a good grade.

I allow them to turn it in late. That way I know they did do it but they will get marked down for being late

I concur! You get from students what you expect from them. Set the bar high, and make students rise to the level.

I don't allow my students to turn in late homework either and if they miss a deadline, they usually will only do it once. I used to let them turn it in late but then it was always late. Typically, if you set expectations and stick to them, the students will be clear on what to expect and will turn the assignment in on time. I think it all about expectations.

This is fine as long as you are consistent and fair with everyone. Your students know up front what the rule is.

I do not give credit for late assignments. I also remind students when assignments are due and the penalty for late assignments.

I concur! Even adult students will take advantage of you, if you allow them to do so.

I allow them to turn in late assignment but it will only be 50% of the grade. I will give them also a deadline for and when I will take or not take the assignments
I have them to turn it in anyway because it shows earnesty. I will not give them credit because it is late. So that they can understand th reprecussions of delayment.
