Hi Kenan,
I like how you share an example, but you let your students know that you want them to go above and beyond as to what has been shown. What a great way to make your students try for even better.
Patricia
To give them an idea of how it should be done for a successful grade.
I like to show examples and challenge the students to use the examples as a baseline but ask them to strive to create something bigger and better than the example. It sets the bar and gives them someting to aim for.
Hi Diane,
Students like knowing clearly what is expected of them. Students are more eager to get started when examples are shared.
Patricia
Hi Kenya,
Students feel more at ease when they know exactly what is expected of them, and visuals really help a lot of students get a better understanding.
Patricia
It gives them a sense of what to expect and what you want out of this course. It also helps them understand the course in general
So the students can be engaged and excited about the work the are preparing to do. Also, so they can know what to expect.
Show examples of student work is helpful because you are able to reinforce why they may need that knowledge in the field.
The examples give the students an idea if they are on the right track.
Hi Sultana,
Examples are very motivating, and they do allow for students to add more quality to their work. Great clarity is also added by being shown an example.
Patricia
to motivate them to improve the quality of their work.
This would help relieve anxiety among students and help reinforce expectations
I like to show students examples of the work they are expected to do, especially projects, because it cuts down on their anxiety level. Giving a student a sheet of paper outlining the requirements for a project with a grading rubric attached can sent them into a panic. However, showing different projects from past classes sets their mind at ease as they realize that they can do it and gives them a direction to go in.
This gives the student a concrete visual of what is effective. Occasionally I'll show a bad example of what not to do, and this works too. Then they have an understanding my expectations and how to approach it.
so they know what you want from them
Hi,
Eases the anxiety levels that the student may by experiencing.
Empowers them with the motivation & enables to succeed. In knowing that, they are capable of Continuous Quality Improvement. Throughout life.
Hi Jeb,
Learning styles vary from student to student. Examples add great clarity as to what is expected of the student. The visual learners love seeing the finished example.
Patricia
Hi Katherine,
I concur! Students get the idea that oh, I can do this. Examples add clarity and great motivation for students.
Patricia
By providing students with examples, it reduces the fear of "maybe I can't do this". It makes the assignment doable and thus the students can have a more comfortable approach to the assignment. I have found that many of my students overthink the assignment and think they need to provide a dissertation instead of a two page essay.
