Hi Fayez,

I think it is important to safeguard our personal privacy; therefore, I don't give students information such as my personal phone number, address, etc. But, sometimes instructors can come across as kind of another form of life and students don't really see the instructor as another human being... I know I wondered that about some of my instructors!

When I share examples from my own life experiences it helps students to see that I am human. It also helps them to see the importance of learning from our mistakes and the value of becoming a life-long learner.

When I provide examples from my professional background it adds interest and relevancy to the course.

Just go with how much you feel comfortable sharing. Don't try to make yourself do something you are not comfortable with... in other words, just be yourself :)
