Making course requirements clear for students.
I have the students read the syllabus out loud, each taking turns. This helps the students to participate , force and follow instructions. This clearly covers the purpose of the course and all expectations required to pass the course. Including, homework due, test dates, what to do if absent on a test date. When I am available for tutoring, if needed. And last but most important you care about their success in the class.
Frustration can present with students when they do not completely understand what is expected from them by the instructor. I have observed an instructor who gives a quiz on the contents of the syllabus to check the understanding of the class regarding what they will be learning and how they will be graded on that information. If students don't do well on the quiz, the information can be reviewed immediately to reinforce the cours expectations.
