Real World Experience
I always try to incorporate real world scenarios in my everyday lectures. However, I want to remain fresh on topics, so I volunteer or stage' a couple times a month.
I find that if you not only share experiences from previous work, but if you assign an article a week to present and share in the class that pertains to current events, students find it easier to connect the dots from class work to real world work.
Every class meeting the instructor should incorporate real world scenarios. Every topic a student takes can be related to their profession. I know students become more engaged when they hear real life scenarios and they are more focused on learning the right way of doing what is being taught to them.
Hi Belinda,
Awesome to want to have practical experience in field so that you can keep your students abreast as to what they need. I can tell you love what you do!

I enjoy using real world experiences with my students as well. I feel it makes them realize that what we are teaching them really will be used in their field of study. I as well like to keep up my skills so I can tell my students exactly what is going on in the field, so I work a part time job to keep my skills fresh.
Hi Karen,
Students love hearing stories as they apply to the real world. Auditory learners especially love story telling.

I think students learn or retain more information if the instructor uses stories/scenarios that incorporates the lecture material. I can remember my own nursing instructors telling stories of ICU patients which helped me to remember the information being studied. Its important, to continue to work in the field in which your teaching. So many things change and keeping up with those changes does help when teaching.
Hi Marcus,
I think it is awesome how you want to remain fresh so that you can share your up-to-date knowledge with your students. Students love it when we make learning apply to the real world.
