Staying Positive

I have a class with some students that have such low self-confidence and I find that being positive in managing your classes is half the battle. Once the students know you care about them and positive they become more motivated and dependable.

Hi Cynthia,
I love your outlook! It sounds like you love teaching, and you lead by example in all areas.

When negativity enters the classroom, it can spread like wildfire, but so can positivity! Some of the research I’ve read concludes that it takes 6 – 12 positive statements of affirmation to balance 1 negative comment. I consistently examine my own motives, attitude and actions toward my students. I am fond of teaching and value my students. However, I do encounter those challenging students who put me to the test! I try to embrace an upbeat, affirming attitude, while maintaining clearly defined boundaries in order to bring synchronization and resolution.

Hi Louise,
A positive attitude by all makes for a great learning environment!

Being aware of a positive attitude during class instructions may help the brain to retain knowledge and be a motivating factor for the student as well. LLotte July2, 2013

Hi Lauren,
You are right! We have to believe in our students. Sometimes we believe in our students more than our students believe in themselves. We certainly help boost our students confidence.
