Conduct your class

This is so important I have been in class rooms that where being thought by other people and I was a student. It was not a good learning envorment for me at all. The teacher had no order student did what they wanted to spoke out of turn and was walking in and out of the room. It was hard to stay focused I did not feel that I learned what I should have from that class.

Hi D'Ann,
Real easy, let the student know that type of language is unprofessional, therefore it is unacceptable in your classroom, and if it does not stop what will happen.

I am also a new instructor. What is the best way to address an adult that has a outgoing personality, participates in class, gives positive feedback, yet communicates with profanity?

Hi Dorothy,
You will grow!! Continue to establish rules and enforce them. When teaching is your passion, your students can tell. Make a strong presence on Day 1!

Hi Amy,
Do not let your students rule you. On Day 1 make a strong presence and state your rules. If you state your rules make sure to stick to them.

I am a new instructor and have experienced the same disrespect and rudeness with SOME of the students. One thing I have noticed is that some of the adult students (regardless of age)do not seem to understand the amount of effort they must put into their education to be successful (in their career field). They complain about having to read the text or study for a test.

These adult students will take the mile if you give in an inch. This is a very good reason that you must have a clear and concise syllabus and rules must be given the very FIRST day of class (re: dress code, tardiness, late assignment, missing a test, etc). At least they will have a clear "picture" of what is expected and what lies ahead as far as the class goes.

As I stated earlier I am a new instructor and I have been learning alot myself. And I love it.

This is my first year Instructing. I was amazed to see grown ups act disrespectful and rude. I needed to seek advise from my Mentor on how to gain better control of student conduct in my class.

Hi Sonya,
It is the instructor's role to have full control of the classroom and produce an environment so that effective learning can take place.
