Grading
I try to make sure students are very clear about grading practices and expectations so that they can focus more on content than a particular grade. I think this encourages them so be successful and not "beat down" by a arbitrary grading system.

Students seems to response better when they know what their current grade throughout the course. I try to review with the students each week. This way the student can make correction, if needed before its too late.

Our students can certainly get caught up on grades. Afterall, their grades are bottom line. Most students look at the end result and really does not put a whole lot of focus what needs to be done to get to the end result.
