Students really do expect a syllabus, and rightfully so should be given a syllabus. A syllabus is the document that should lay out everything about the course.

I agree that it is very important for a student to understand what to expect from a course and what their part is to accomplish success in their endeavors. The syllabus is the basis for their understanding with subject matter outlined and requirements for students to acquire understanding of that subject matter. It is the basis that must be introduced to new students to make them feel comfortable with future expectations of their time in that course.
