Adult Education

What is hard to understand is how this students do not comply or try to shortcut what is require from them since they pay or borrow the money to get an education? I always tell them that if it was me I would take as much advantage as I can to make my investment work in my future.

Hi DeSharn,
Older students are generally receptive, and they usually welcome advice, input, feedback constructive feedback, etc.

Hi Patricia,
I love the analogy! It made me chuckle, and it is the truth! People want things, but they do not want to put in the effort to gain things. Our students must put in the effort to be successful.

I agree with you. Adults are interested in the field of study they selected. They want to complete the course, work in the chosen field, but do NOT want to devote the time to doing the required work. I once heard a woman at church say she enjoyed singing; but she did not have the time to attend choir rehearsal. Same principle.

I agree shortcuts are short lived. However, older adults going back to school find it hard to juggle family, work, and school. Older adult students live in the moment and do not do the right thing and go for the short cuts. As instructors we have to empathize with them continue to remind them of the results of taking short cuts.

Hi Darren,
Shortcuts are really short lived. It is better to do things the right way because it is the right thing to do.

Hi Ricardo,
Students really do need to take a very serious approach to the investment in their education. It would be nice if students would give their eveything to do well at all times. They really are paying good money to come to school.

in the real world we all take short cuts, we need to show them why it is better to avoid the short cuts
