Hands-on Training

I agree that all assignments provided need to be tied in to job-related skills; students need to know they are getting the skills they need to jump right into the job market and have that competitive edge over the next applicant. By tying in the lesson and the job skills, a student will become more confident in not only the skill, but their own abilities.

I strongly believe in offering students practical exercises, hands-on training. The exercises expand the scope of learning/teaching; it employs the use of auditory, tactile, visual, and psychomotor components to the instructor's pedagogy. It also serves to as a means for the student to actualize himself in the role.

Hi Kathy,
When a student can do something, they really do feel much better about themselves.

I have also found that hands-on training builds the student's self esteem that they can do new and relevant tasks that they will also perform in the work place. It also gives me a teachable moment to remind them why tasks are done a certain way in the work place. For example, I can instruct them as to why utilizing sterile technique in the hospital setting is essential for particular situations.

Not only does it show them understanding the lesson, it gives them pride that they can actually do the work. I personally have seen the light in my student's eyes beam and their thirst for more knowledge grows.

I agree that is why I try to give them more than they need so that no only can they enter the work force but they will stand out above the rest with their abilitys

Hi Phillip,
Students enjoy hands-on activities, and you can tell if they have grasped the concept through application. Our students must learn how to be resourceful.

Phillip, I completely agree I really enjoy doing hands-on activities with my students it also helps the student to engage more within the class.

I'm more of a hands on style instructor. Although theory and discussion are very relevant the direct approach of doing gets the students to process, problem solve and be creative. With the world at our fingertips it is very interesting to see how the students problem solve and share ideas. I concern myself with the journey of the solved problem over the solution. The end result is the same answer but the questions are how did we get there? can it be refined or improved? Did we use every available resource efficiently?

This was not my teaching style, I'm slowly bringing this into the classrm and am beg.to love it.

Hi Rollin,
Hands on is the way. You can really determine if students can apply what has been taught.

A hands on lab work helps drive home the point of what was being taught in the class. A way to understand real world work in your chosen field

Hi Anthony,
Love it! When students can apply theory, they have mastered the concept.

I always back up the written lesson plan with a lab demo..This helps the student think..

Hi Carlos,
We must do our due diligence to prepare students for the workplace. Each assignment should be meaningful and have a purpose that will help the student become successful.
