Get the students who are less interested directly involved

I oftentimes purposely find ways to draw the students who are the least interested in the topic by making them contribute to conversations through the sharing of real-world professional experiences. Most of the time it works as planned.

Hi Helen,
Yes, students can better grasp the concept when the concept is taught using a story.

My students love it when they ask a question or are trying to understand a concept and I reply, "I have a story about that". So many times it makes the concept more real and puts it into a perspective they can understand more readily.

Hi Richard,
Students truly enjoy hearing our stories that are applicable to the lesson. Sharing applicable stories makes the lesson more exciting.

Being a Criminal Justice Instructor, I find bringing real world examples is the only way to get the students thinking and engaged into the topic. Everyone loves "War Stories", but when you can apply those stories directly to the material in the textbooks, thats when the students really participate and learn. It provokes more questions so you can really go deeper and deeper into the subject matter.

Hi Robert,
Sharing real-world experiences is a good way to draw students into the conversation.
