Late Assignments and the Relationship to the Working World
I found the comparison of having assignment deadlines to reenforce the concept of deadlines at work to be helpful. It is a good comparison to give students, especially in a trade school.
Hi Thomas,
Nicely stated! Your are right! Not meeting deadlines will not be tolerated in the real world.

The working world is far less tolerant of late assignments. To that end, the faster the student adopts what is a policy of submitting required work in a timely fashion, the better they will be setting themselves up for positive work ethics after they become employed.
Hi Emma,
I crack down on my students when it comes to late assignments. Late assignments are not accepted. In the real world not meeting deadlines can cause termination.

Late assignments has also been an issue for me; however, being able to apply real world expectations will certainly be beneficial to my classroom setting.
The concept of deadlines at work in relationship to assignment deadlines prepares students for what the job world is expecting them. I put due dates and times clearly on the board and take no exceptions. Normally, the deadline serves very well.
Hi Eleni,
Students need to be held accountable when it comes to meeting deadlines. Students need to know that not meeting deadlines in the real word will cause them to be terminated.

Late assignments have been a general classroom problem for me. Periodically, I have to allow a day for students to catch up on their assignments. I feel this gives the wrong message to those that have submitted their work on time.
By the next day, some students are already behind again. Listening to this module has helped me set up some ground rules that will hold students accountable for submitting work late.
Hi Kenneth,
Yes it is! Students really gain understanding of the importance of a deadline when you compare a dealine to the workplace.
