Unfocused Students

I tell my students situations from past experiences,of mine I can explain the relevance of what they are learning and how it will help them in the working world.

Hello Joseph,
Sharing real life situations with our students is definitely a good thing. There is much to be learned from real life situations, and the students do enjoy them.
Patricia

Definately get them involved with a real life situation so they can understand the outcome and how important they can be to its outcome

Hello Charles,
There are some students that must be reminded of the importance of the course. Most of the time based on the first explanation of the importance of the course most students take the course seriously, but you do have some that may need to be reminded.
Patricia

Explaining to the student the importance of the course.

Hi Brenden,
A nice story from time to time is a nice icebreaker. We must continue try to motivate the unmotivated and keep the motivated students interested as well.
Patricia

Students enjoy a break from the focused learning aspect. They enjoy a good story now and then. The more they relate to your story the more it drives them. I have had unmotivated students change just from stories I have told that they can invision or relate too.

i could not agree more

Most unfocused students are focus ,but on other thing not subject related. Explaining to the student the importance of the course will help the student return and stay on track.

Hi Jim,
It is important for students to know how they are going to benefit from taking a course. You must make sure the students know the class is really going to help them in the workforce.
Patricia

Even using the students experiences and what they are learning is "in it" for them brings them into focus when they feel what they are learning is worthwhile and relates to their experiences.

Hi Brian,
Experience is the best teacher! Students enjoy hearing about your practical experiences. The book theory is good, but sharing practical experiences in relationship to the book is even better.
