Blaming others
I try to get the student to understand that in the professional world when you are given an assignment to accomplish, you don't have the luxury to lay the blame on someone else.
Hi Michael,
Never embarass a student. Students appreciate a helpful instructor as yourself.
Patricia
I do not let the students blame any one but their self for not accomplishing a task that has been assigned. Most of the time they just did not do it, but now and then I find that they have a hard time with reading, math, etc. try and help them, not imbarass them.
Hi Nancy,
What a great analogy! Adults will point the finger just like kids do. How amazing, isn't it? I let them know take responsibility for your actions.
Patricia
I'm always amazed at adult students that want to find someone else to blame for mistakes. I try to give them real life examples, such as paying bills, or taking care of children or other aspects of their daily lives. I ask them to take the same ownership of their school projects as they do in their personal lives.
Hi Troy,
Absolutely! You must take responsibility for your actions. No one wants to hear your excuses.
