Unfocused students
have them do special assignments to keep their mind in the game, pay some closer attention to them it shows that you care and it keeps them on track
Vincent,
I agree concerning special assignments. The module mentioned the concept of "minute papers" In the past, I have found a similar technique that I like very much -- the daily journal -- is an effective way to focus students.
When required to complete a journal entry as part of a participation grade, it is incumbent upon the instructor to follow-up by reading and commenting.
In computer-based learning, this is easier as the instructor can monitor posting times and engage the student on his or her reflections. Such access though, should be limited to student and teacher to keep journal reflections personal.
I think this is an effective way for instructors to pay closer attention and keep students on track.

Christopher
Hi Andrew,
It is important for our students to know that we are not always serious. They need to know that we are human, and we like laughter too.
Patricia
I agree I like to use humor to kind of get them out of there shell, sometimes poking fun at my self loosens them up and they become more involved. After that they are not so intimidated and the lines of communication are open. They are comfortable with the learning environment after that.
Hi Allana,
Nicely stated! Continue to have your students' interest at heart!
Patricia
Absolutely, caring is so important as well as encouraging students. We have a duty as educators to motivate every student strong or weak and get them on a path toward success!
Hi Steven,
It certainly is important for instructors to know how to reach indivual students based on their learning style. Absolutely, students do have their unique gifts. We as educators must help students find their unique gifts.

"It is not how smart you are, but how you are smart." Everyone has something to bring to the table...It is up to the instructor to nurtute individual learning styles to bring out the best in all students.
Hi Vincent,
My favorite moto is, "A sudent does not care how much you know until they know how much you care. As educators, we must be caring.
