Use-it-wisely cards

While I have no experience with this virtual curency technique, we have discussed this approach with respect to the barrage of emails that seem to plague the workplace, each mark 'urgent'.

Seriocity, Inc.,(http://www.seriosity.com/home.html), has implemented this as an add-on to MS Outlook. The user may attach any number of 'Serios' to their email to get your attention. Of course, one has only a limited amount of serios, so opportunity costs must be considered; not every mail can be given highest priority.

An interesting twist is that you earn Serios by replying to a message.

I don't know if I wholely agree with the "Use-it-wisely" cards. Although I know that you should try to limit the amount of time the "Center Stage" students take from the class, I don't like the idea of stifling their creativity by limiting them to a set amount of questions. I don't have a solid alternative to this. Are there any other possibilities? Maybe setting time after class to answer the rest of the question. Thoughts?

He Dee,
How would you utilize the wisely cards differently to make it work for online classes?
Patricia

I love this idea of use it wisely cards. It would also work great for teaching an online class to limit emails and rambling discussions.
