Hi Eddy,
I love guest speakers. They bring classroom theory to real life.

Hi Jennifer,
Nicely stated! You are definitely on point! Guest speakers add a lot of flavor to the course!!

Guest speakers provide the reality of what theworkplace means after graduation. It encourages students to be more proactive in their educational experience and it motivates the current college students to excel by mastering the skills learned in class, so they can be applied accordingly. Experiencing a successful graduate's experience " out there" opens new horizons and fuel the students up for more.
I agree, I use guest speaker all the time especially if the guest speaker is a past student so know how to achieve here goals.
It can help them refocus and see the benefits of staying in the course. These students tend to feel like they are the "only" person that has had to juggle all that they juggle. By seeing a real, live person who has juggled as much and succeeded can help them to stay motivated and re-dedicate themselves to the program.
A guest speaker can trigger some excitement in students minds and cause motivation. After months of studying and being tested, students tend to lose sight of their goal. This will hopefully help the lecture/ content of the class to be applied to every day life for an individual.
Bringing real world experience adds value to the course content and allows those students who are discouraged to visualize the possibilities. It helps them to "reinvest" in their original decision to pursue their career choice. I find that graduates of the school are a wonderful addition to the regular course material presentation to reassure students that they will overcome their current challenges and have a bright future ahead.
I work in a music technology college and we regularly have industry professionals do guest seminars. I believe it shows the unmotivated student that there is success in sticking with something that they believe in.
Hi Eleanor,
I agree! A guest speaker is a breath of fresh air.

Probably at one time or another, students become discouraged and feel as though they may have made a mistake in continuing their education. Having a guess speaker that shares their personal experiences, and provide helpful tips how they over came difficulties, can help influence students to continue to pursue their education.
Guest speakers can always add incredible value to your class. Their knowledge and expertise can be very invaluable. The more knowledge a person can add to the class the better the class can be
I would advise my students to engage a guest speaker with thoughtful questions and comments because today's guest speaker may be tomorrow's future employer. No opportunities to make a great impression should be overlooked!
A student that is discouraged or thinking about quitting may relate to the guest speaker giving them another approach and different perspective.
Hi toni,
Guest speakers are the best, and they can add a great sense of motivation.

Sometimes students get so overwhelmed during the process of their educational aspirations, that they have a difficult time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. A guest speaker can serve as a positive role model to the students. Additionally, they can ask the speaker questions and gain invaluable insights into their future careers.
THEY PRESENT THEMSELVES AS A NEUTRAL AND WELL EXPERIENCED PARTY IN THS GAME OF DEMOTIVATION/DISCOURAGE. THEY BECOME THE VOICE OF REASON,SPECIALLY NOW THE STUDENT IS GOING THROUGH A SHORT PHASE OF NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO? OR WHERE DO THEY GO FROM HERE...?
I think Guest Speakers are a valuable resource that can enlighten and give personal insight to students that have yet to experince there chosen career. I highly recommend utlilizing Guest Speakers, whenever the oppurtunity comes up.
Having a guest speaker gives the students a break from the normal and to see the information from somebody else.
Guest speakers can give the students a different perspective on things. Being instructed by the same person could get monotonous. In the work field, one will encounter many different personalities and bringing in someone to share their experiences could show a discouraged student a different light to what they are pursuing.
We tend to see ourselves as victims. A guest speaker is a superb idea! Someone who can go back to hard times, but remind students there was always a light at the end of the tunnel. It was all worth it, the late nights, the missed parties because you had to study for the final. A guest who can assure the students that the next chapter will be a happier one.
