Great way to capture students attention. Students can relate when we make a connection of the material to the real world.

I use more on the job examples and role playing.

I will stop the material and talk about a real world task related to the material.

When you use yourself as an example of an issue that a student may be going through, it motivates them because they see that you have overcome and were still able to be successful

What I like to do is bring into my lecture, terminology and subject matter that relates to them. I use current topics, and anime, and comic books, and tv shows, music and video game references, so that students can make a connection with what I am trying to say.

When students are asked questions they tend to begin to pay attention because they do not like being put on the spot. When a student is asked a question they want to give the correct answer in front of their peers.

In the first class meeting I learn about the students and their goals. When I notice that one is being inattentive, I make efforts to relate the topic to their goals or their situation. I ask them for input on the materials by asking questions like: Tell me about a time when you encountered... What has been your experience in work or school when.

This seems to get them engaged and sharing about the experiences they have had and how it relates to the course.

I like your response of using the power point for their review rather than the teaching strategy. I teach in an excellerated ADN nursing program where there is so much material at such a fast pace that I began making intense power point slides. I think I will just begin using them as the basis for studying but in the class use groups, questions and answering and somehow make the focus their learning and not my teaching.

You can ask them questions like, "have you ever had this happen to you"? or 'what would you do in this situation"? in pertaining to your lecture to get them thinking and involved.

I believe that alot of interaction with the students keep them interested .I believe hands on help them understand the course better.

I have them help set up class demos and posters prior to class .I make them team captains for interactive learning . I use a pair share project. I revisit the wiifm of the class . I use the objective of the class in re life settings.

I usually start asking them 'opinion' questions about the material. This gets them away from their thinking "my answer is wrong". After that, I will ask why or what lead them to that opinion? and hopefully incorporate their response to some of the more concrete ideas we are learning that day.

Group/teamwork really helps students prepare for the workplace whenever they may encounter a team project in the workplace. Students learn the importance of each team member's role and that everyone has to do their part in order for the project to be successful.

I feel the one-on-one approach is best, at least initially. That way there is no guess work involved, you can find out exactly what the student needs. Otherwise, in general, guest lectures are also good resources.

I believe group/teamwork is a must to create an interactive learning environment between students.
