instructor duty to manage class
how can I convince my local management to allow me to include syllabi and daily lesson plan tools to aid in the management of challenging students from the outset. they insist on minimal universal formats
Including daily lesson plans and a complete syllabus is fundamental to student success and satisfaction. Any one who has completed a teaching credential progra,m has had thsi concept drilled into their brain. Daily lesson plans are not only important for the instructor in order to plan a course but also are important if the instructor is absent and someone has to sub.
Additionally many students complain that their instructor is 'unprepared' and this is often a result of a disorganized instructor who does not spend enough time planning.
Lesson plans allow the instructor to make sure they have more than enough material to fill the alloted class time in case some aspect of the class takes less time than anticipated. It is also useful in making sure course objectives are covered. I would be scared to teach without a comprehensive lesson plan and syllabus.
The benefit to students is that a comprehensive syllabus reduces confusion about due dates, assignments, required reading, content and tests and quizzes. It allows the student to plan their study time and ensures them that they have completed assignments and required readings and work.
Hi Geroge,
Explain to them the benefits of doing so. Get your colleagues to chime in as well. There should be some academic freedom allowed.
