Mandatory Office Hours as a Tool
Mandatory office hour visitations for all students is a useful tool. During this one-on-one time, teachers can address sensitive topics and resolve many classroom management issues they may be experiencing.

Absolutely! Office time is extremely beneficial to the studnets. If a student takes the time to utilize office time, he or she is very serious about his or her education.

As a culinary instructor, the one-on-one time that we can offer the students is wonderful. We have the opportunity to use our time in the office or kitchen. Often we have a student that is not willing to participate only because they are unsure the answer they are giving is correct. We can give them more time to feel confident about the procedure and recipes in the class. I believe office time makes a difference.

Most students typically take advantage of office hours. It is a great tool to effectively deal with shy students, older students, and struggling students.

In career schools office hours are a great way for students to be able to speak to their instructors out of the lab or classroom setting. We have found them very useful for students who are shy about learning disabilities or older students who have a fear of looking "bad" in front of a group.
I have found this particularly useful with students who are shy about not understading the competencies.
