Hi John,
Some students do have wandering minds in class, but they do just fine on the test. We all have different ways of focusing, whether it is bouncing our leg or doodling. We have to use our best judgement as to whether students are focusing or not and move forward.

I find it very difficult to know if a student is focused or not. Many students will fade in and out of focus and perform well. Other students appear somewhere else, i call on them and they respond-i was expecting a blank look. It causes my wife grief that i bounce my leg during a movie or church-she assumes i am not listening. Perhaps students can be mildly focused during class and become more focused when they study?
