Student Learning Styles

The use of Gardner's Theory of Intelligences allows several different teaching strategies to help student's with various learning styles.

I have never heard of Gardener's theory of multiple intelligence but cant wait to research it because I believe the average student needs multiple styles to learn best. I am newer to instructing so that might be why.

I’m soooo excited to know that other instructors refer to Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligence too. I LOVE to use Gardner’s techniques in class. I have given my students a quiz that reveals what their preferred way of learning is or in what areas they are the strongest. I then try to incorporate all of those unique learning styles in to my class each week (sometimes this is hard to do). However, I find that if I find each student unique learning style he/she is more attentive and participates in class. I also use them as a resource for helping explain the topic to the class. For example, if a student is a visual learner, I may ask them to draw what the meaning of the word is or give us a visual cue to help us remember what this specific word/term means.

I remember when I was a student and learned by seeing, hearing and writing it down, remembering this, I teach with that in mind to cover all the bases.

Hi Diane,
How has this theory help you teach your students?
