Use-It-Wisely Cards

Has anyone every used the use-it-wisely cards? I have not used them before. I guess I would have a hard time to think that if a student uses all of their cards, then they would be finished for the day.

It sounds like a great idea, but I worry that they will be offended because it might come across as a bit juvenile.

This sounds like a great idea! I hate to discourage students who like to participate but sometimes the stories and examples get a little lengthy & they'll try and dominate a discussion. I will definitely use this technique.

I have the same problem with a student. This might be a great way to remedy this situation.. I will be trying it.

I think that this is a great idea if used correctly and exceptions are made at the beginning. I have some students who seem to ask questions every 5 minutes and it makes it challenging to help all the students if you are always answering one students questions. However I would hate to see an important question go un asked/answered just because they ran out of cards. I tend to have my students look for anwers else where before always asking myself also. I tell them look the book or ask a classmate first. I think if I used the cards it could help a lot, letting them know that they only have to use the cards if they ask the instructor, they get a free pass if they ask a fellow class mate.

Actually, I was elated to hear of this procedure as a way to control the talkative students. I also think it will be helpful for those students who ask the same questions repeatedly. My class has a situation with a student who asks questions that others have asked, simply because she is too busy doing something else to hear the answer and her classmates are getting as frustrated as I and have even gone so far as to tell her that the question has been answered and a page number given for reference. I will try this method with her class and see if it really works.

i havent ever used the idea before, but i really like the idea. especially if theres a larger class group, it will encourage the quieter ones to speak out more once the more vocal ones are quieted for the day. great strategy!
