unprepared students

Motivate to be more prepared by using them as examples.

I have this problem all the time. Students are given kits, yet forget to bring them to class. These students are the same ones that will sit in the back of the class with cell phones.
If the student doesn't have the supplies then he can't do the work, which means he has wasted his time.
In my school, we are all about attendance and can't send the student home, and must work with them to make up the work. It becomes very time consuming. I spend several hours a week with students one on one reteaching classwork they missed or just didn't do.
I wish I had a anwser to this but without school backing I can't do much.

I have observed that trade school students don't treat their education as they would an actual employer, which is what our training should include, in my opinion.

My school is a trade based school. Having said that if a student shows up without the tools that were provided should we be sending them home like an employer would or just dock the points for participation

Hi Patti,
My students know that if they come unprepared they will lose participation points utimately resulting into a lower final grade.
Patricia

My students are aware that if they come unprepared that it ultimately will be damaging to their final grade.
