Students accountability
Students need to be account for their actions, along with the Instructors.
Hi Shirley,
Your statement is absolutely true. On the first day of class, I talk with my students about Respect, Accountability and Follow Through, as well as, how these concepts can build or destroy a person's perception of who you are.
Both students and instructors must reflect on their actions and react in a way that supports a positive outcome for everyone involved.
Hi Debbie,
That's right! Some students think it is never their fault. Students need to realize they have to be responsible for their actions.

yes students need to be held accountable for their actions at all times. They need to know that there may be consequences as well
Ensuring students are held accountable really does them a personal service - they will be more valuable in the job market, not to mention more responsible. As a teacher, I am held accountable for my lectures, materials, attitude, and fairness across the board. Likewise, my students are accountable for attending class, completing homework, and showing up on time. I think it is a good idea to address accountability the first week. Encouraging discussion about this with the class is also helpful: it ensures everyone understands what accountability is and that each person is individually responsible for it. It is also good to discuss consequences at this time: when we lack accountability, we are left to suffer the consequences. To avoid negative consequences, we are motivated to be accountable.
I agree, Shirley. When we don't hold students accountable, we are doing them a disservice by not preparing them for the professional world.
