Capturing student attention

I like to constantly ask questions as I lecture on the topic covered previously. I will frequently give the student who gives me the right answer 1 to 2 bonus points which are added to their next quiz. They have to raise their hand if they know the answer. I notice that the students are very attentive and ready for the question and be the first to raise their hand.

Hi Marcia,
Develop a PowerPoint presentation to share with students about the benefits/advantages in the workplace about this particular course.

I can see how Marie's suggestion would work in a lecture class and motivate her students to pay attention, but how do you motivate students in a clinical setting in the middle of a 12 hour shift, when you are having post-conference at 2:00pm and the class is pass/fail? There are no grades or extra points to obtain. Any suggestions?

Hi Marie,
What a great way to get students involved! When students know that they are going to be rewarded they tend to work a lot harder.
