Managing Difficult Students

It presents a challenge to the isntructor having different types of these students in a classroom. But paying attention to their behavior ,having strucxture in the classroom and assingning them important roles within the classroom helps a lot.

Hi Mohammed,
Great points made! A student will make a lot of noise if they are confronted in class in front of their peers in order to save face. Always speak with students privately. Things will go a lot smoother in a private setting.

One of the things dealing with difficult student is not to confront the student infront of the class. make sure to pull the student aside to speak to him. If he still continues to do the same things give him written warning.

Hi Chelsea,
Let her know how you feel. Have a private firm conversation with her and let her know her behavior has to change. When you have the conversation let her know how this type of behavior will be preceived in the workplace.

I have a student who presses me on everything I say and is proud to proclaim how stuborn and outspoken she is. I think my age (25) (she is, i suspect, near 40) adds to the issue that she feels she can speak up and contradict, or challenge whatever it is I'm saying. I'm having a hard time managing her consistantly - although dealing with her issues one-on-one seems to help.

Managing difficult students are very challenging. Sometimes it good to pull the student aside or speak to the studen ton individual basis to learn the reason in which the student is misbehaving and to provide assistance or alternatives to aid in solutions to their problems

And after several verbal warnings and coaching sessions...a written conduct probation does wonders for behavior. You do this or you are dismissed. Let's face it...that's the work world and the other students deserve a decent learning experience as well!
