language barrier
I have a few student in my class who are English as a second language. I seem to have problems with the papers they write in understanding their interruption of the subject matter.Any suggstions
I have had students from all over the world, Including a deaf person! Everybody can communicate through the right tools! I actually learned A few signs with the translators there! Everybody who wants an education deserves an education!!
This is difficult at times. I do remind them how intelligent they are to know 2 languages!! Many can be very hard on themselves when they are "not like the others." If this issue is great, the student may need to take some additional classes to better prepare the english skills. Sometimes, that may be an answer. Otherwise, praise them for the knowledge they have, but be honest where they need to strengthen the skills. It is important to the job they will hold in the future.
